No doubt, many of us have heard the Scripture passage in which God tells us that he has separated our sins from us as far as the east is from the west. But do you know where east and west really are?
Here is an easy way to find out, but you need to act within the next few days to get an accurate reading.
On the first day of Spring (this past Tuesday, March 20th), the sun rose directly in the east and set directly in the west. Thus, if you can see the sun set in the next few days, it will be setting very close to due west; do an about face, and you are headed due east.
As we head into Spring, the sun will increasingly rise to the north of due east and increasing set to the north of due west, culminating in the longest day of the year on the first day of summer; this means we are now heading into our highest solar power production months. At that point, the sun's rising and setting will start moving back towards due east and due west respectively. And if you missed your chance to find due east and due west without a compass at the beginning of Spring, you can find it again on the first day of Fall, when again, the sun rises due east and sets due west.
